TROPICANA Casino and Resort are set to cash out $25 million in its renovation project this year. The casino floor, restaurants and hotel rooms are on the agenda as part of a multiyear overhaul of the Boardwalk property. Joseph Weinert, a casino analyst and senior vice president of Spectrum Gaming Group, said it is crucial for Tropicana and other casinos to make capital investments if they want to remain competitive.

TORONTO is the latest target for Las Vegas Sands Corp. in its casino-resort push. It comes in response to Ontario’s government’s push to land a new casino in the area. Officials from the company, which owns resorts in Las Vegas, Pennsylvania, Macao and Singapore, were in Toronto recently scouting the waterfront, including Exhibition Place, but were turned away from the closed Ontario Place grounds; two independent sources told the Star. Sands spokesman Ron Reese refused to confirm or deny the visit but wrote in an email, “as things progress, please stay in touch.”
